Look of the Day: Chanel/Venice

Look of the Day: Chanel/Venice

I realize that I said I’d do the Chanel Murano quad tutorial a long time ago, but I kept putting it off for whatever reason.  Anyhow, I finally decided to do it yesterday and was reminded of how beautiful the color set really is.

The thing I love about this look is that it’s a nice variant of the smokey eye; it’s not too dark, but there’s a slight drama to it that can be perfect for a day at the office or a night out on the town.  It’s sophisticated, chic, and well, classic Chanel.  :]  If you can’t tell, I’m probably Chanel’s biggest fan.  :D

Anyhow, I hope you guys love this look as much as I do… it’s definitely one of my favorites.  So, enough rambling from me… I’ll start off by telling you about the tools used:

  • Brushes: Chanel #2/3/4/10/11; MAC #227; stila #28; Smashbox #12; Dior Powder Foundation brush
  • Diorskin Nude Fresh Glow foundation in #031 and powder in #30
  • Chanel Vitalumiere Cream Concealer
  • Jemma Kidd Spotlight Intense Highlight Crème in Red Carpet
  • Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil in Brunette + Brow Fix
  • Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Murano
  • Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Platine
  • Chanel Le Crayon Khol Intense Eye Pencil in Blanc (white)
  • stila smudge pots in black
  • Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes mascara
  • Chanel Tweed Sienna and Fandango blushes
  • Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Praline D’Or
  • Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in #136

Once you’re done with everything, you should get the following look:

If you’d like to achieve this look, continue reading!

1. Add concealer under your eyes and on any blemishes/red areas (near your nose, etc), and blend with a foundation brush.  I don’t like to use my “good” foundation brush for this, so my personal favorite is Sonia Kashuk’s foundation brush; this works well as a concealer brush but not much more.  FYI, for people with small noses, adding concealer to the bridge of the nose will give it a nicer shape.

2. Using your foundation brush (I like Chanel #16 the best), apply one pump all over the face, and set with powder.

3. Gently fill in the brows with your brow pencil, making sure not to darken them too much.  Since you’ll be wearing a relatively bold look on the eyes, it’s normally a bit overkill to make the brows super dark, too.  Finish with the Studio Fix brow wax to keep the hairs in place.

4. Now, it’s time to use the star of this look… the Chanel Murano quad!  :)  Taking Chanel #11, pack on the pink from the quad, using it as an all-over wash.

5. With the Chanel #2 brush, take the middle shade (from the three green/blue colors), and apply it over your upper lids, stopping right around your crease.  Use the same brush to blend it in, feathering the edges.  Still using the #2 brush, use the lightest of the greens, and add it to the middle area of your lid (I guess the “ball” area?).  This will give your eyes a bit of a pop and will ensure that you don’t get a muddy look.

6. Taking the Chanel #3 brush, add the darkest color to the outer edge of your eye, making sure to really blend it in (otherwise, you’ll see harsh lines, which won’t look good at all).  I like to use the MAC #227 for this since I see that as the ultimate blending brush.  :)  After adding to the outer edges and blending, sweep the dark green color at the crease (and a tiny bit above) of your eyes; this will make them appear larger.

7. At this point, I took the lightest of the greens and added to the brow bone, muting it down a bit with the pink.  Of course, as you know, adding a light color underneath the brow bone will accentuate the arch in your eyebrows, so they look more defined, (and defined brows with a smokey eye is always gorgeous).

8. Time for the eyeliner!  Using stila #28, add the stila smudge pots to the thin brush, and make sure to only apply on the upper lid (as close to the lashes as possible).  Add your flick at the end, with the liner thicker toward the outer edges of your eyes (and obviously thinner at the inner corners).  Now, switch to the Smashbox #12 brush (or any angled brush), wet it, and add the darkest of the greens from the quad to it, lining the lower lash line, meeting the black liner from the top.  With the Chanel eye pencil in Blanc (white), add to the waterline of your eyes, as this will make them appear brighter, larger, and more awake.  Finally, with Chanel #4, add a little bit of Platine to the inner corners of your eyes.

9. Add mascara generously to top and bottom lashes (after curling them, of course).  You can use falsies for this look, but I opted not to since I wanted to look a little more natural.

10. Using Chanel #10 for contouring, I used the blush in Fandango and added to my cheekbones (while blending in!).  Then with the Chanel #7 (or any other blush brush), I added the Tweed Sienna to the apples of my cheeks.

11. Almost done!  Now, color in your lips with the Praline D’Or, and finish off with the lip gloss for a nice, brown nude color.

12. This step is optional (and I do this sometime in the middle), but if you want even more definition in your nose, use the JK highlighter by adding some to your pinky and stippling onto the bridge.

Aaaand that’s it!  Your eyes will look like this when closed:
